FAQ

Reflexology is the method for activating the natural healing responses of your body. It involves a set series of fingerwalks and pressure points that correspond to the reflex points of your body, almost like an acupressure. The areas on your feet or hands correspond to systems and organs of the body. Pressure on these points bring relaxation and healing to those areas that are needed. It also helps bring your body back to its natural state of balance.

By applying these pressure points, it helps to release areas that are blocked and gets things moving and flowing to help the body heal.

  • helps to improve circulation. This is great for diabetics as they usually have circulation issues
  • helps move blockages. It will help keep things moving and flowing, helps lymph drainage, helps with excretion of toxins in the body
  • helps to relieve pain. It will help to stimulate the release of endorphins and is effective for the control of pain
  • helps with sleep difficulties. Reflexology can help to improve sleep quality and impact positively on general health and wellbeing
  • helps relieve stress, tension and anxiety. Treatments are deeply relaxing and de-stressing allowing adrenaline producing areas to shut off. Natural endorphins are released, which decreases stress and anxiety.
  • helps with plantar fasciitis. Reflexology helps to loosen up muscles and tendons in the foot and lower leg which will help improve flexibility. These stretches and pressure points will help with plantar fasciitis pain.

The method of doing reflexology does not tickle your feet. By using a firm but gentle pressure, as well as finger walks and presses, you are assured that there is no sensitivity to your feet. If you are still in doubt, you could try Hand Reflexology instead. That will give you a sense of the type of pressure that is used in a treatment.

A lot more insurance companies are covering Reflexology now than when I first started. You will have to check with your insurance provider to see if they cover it, and if they don’t, you can always ask them if they would consider it. Your Extended Health Benefit package may be able to cover it, or part of it as well. You could also try and submit your receipts at tax time under your personal health coverage.

I always tell a client to listen to their own body. If there is an issue they would like to deal with, I usually like to work with the client once every 1 or 2 weeks for about a month, and then go to every 3 weeks. The average time between treatments is 4 to 6 weeks.
