The Month of Love & Family

I think it is great that we get to celebrate twice this month! Lots of love to help warm things up. We need lots more love in this world, and I will just leave it at that and you can fill in the blanks.

Moving forward, what will you be doing to celebrate? Visiting with friends? Having a big get together? Spending the day curled up with your partner/cat/dog, watching a good movie? Going solo and getting some good ‘me’ time in with a good book and large mug of hot cocoa? Whatever way you are celebrating St. Valentines Day & Family Day, don’t forget to throw in a good heaping of love!

This year brings wisdom, transformation, calmness and creativity. The year of the Wood Snake begins on January 29th. For those of you born during the year of the snake, you are believed to be strategic and intelligent as well as intuitive. What a great time for personal growth and revival! What will you do this year that will help promote yourself?

I think one of the things that I will be doing is working more with my creativity; to be more free and adapting, and not be afraid to try new and different things. Helping other people to discover their creative side and perhaps guiding them to use creativity as a healing tool. There is so much that can explored from painting, drawing, writing, collage and other mediums. It can be freeing, calming and even meditative to be able to get things out in a tangible way that can go from a scribbled mess into something meaningful and beautiful through layers, textures, written works, colours and beyond.

It’s the perfect weather to get out and get some fresh air to cleanse the body! Helps to get all that winter funk out of the system. It’s the same as when you open the doors wide in the middle of winter in your house to air it out. Do you do this? I do. I would love to know who does or doesn’t do this, drop me a text: 226-755-0540 /email: samurphy.reflex@gmail.com /instagram message: @samurphy.reflex

Anyhoo, back to the hot cocoa! This is a great recipe and is so much better than those package deals that have all kinds of preservatives and whatever else in them.

Recipe: Blend 1 tbsp. (15mL) premium cocoa with 2* tbsp. (30 mL) sugar (*note: I cut this down a little because I like it a little less sweet). Mix in 1 tbsp. cold milk (you can use almond milk instead). Stir in 1 cup (250 mL) hot milk (don’t boil).

You can also add just a touch of vanilla extract or sprinkle cinnamon on top. Go for it with some marshmallows (if you can make them homemade, all the better! I’ll have to check out a recipe for that) or real whipped cream. There is a place in St. Jacobs called Expressway Ridge Dairy that sells whole milk; it is a delight to buy their milk as it is so creamy. I also indulge in their yogurt with maple syrup in it (not overly sweet, just right!), and their cheese curds have that beautiful squeak to them. A must try if you are heading to St. Jacobs, just note that they are closed Sundays.

Stay warm and cozy everyone!
