Wishing the world a time to reflect and hopefully to reboot itself in oh so many ways! For me, it’s looking forward to the future and live in the present. And of course cherishing memories of the past. This year I am not making any resolutions for the year, perhaps only goals that are manageable and timely. You know, baby steps. So much easier and less stressful if I go astray. I am one of those people who start a daunting task, say cleaning out a room of clutter. I get all excited and start by tossing, recycling, repurposing and all of a sudden find something from the past (say, a yearbook from highschool) which brings me to a grinding halt as I just have to go through it. Uh oh, so much for that task. As well as other items that I find in a box and go, ‘oh, I remember this, can’t throw that away’. You get the picture. I have gotten better, really! I like to either repurpose things if I can or upcycle them. With books, I like to donate them to the library, I would rather have someone else love them as much as I did. Or give them to one of the Little Libraries in our neighbourhood.
Getting back on track (see, I could have gone on forever on a tangent!), my goal for this slot of manageable time is to get decluttered as much as I can. For the past year and a half I have barely bought anything that is irrelevant. I ask myself, do I really need it or do I just want it to satisfy some sort of craving. Need instead of want.
At present I am trying to streamline my Reflexology room due to space limitations and have taken to making things as moveable as possible. My goal is to have most of my furniture on wheels, save for the treatment table. This is a great solution so that I can reconfigure the room as needed for the different modalities I am working on at any given time.
I have so many new ideas for the year ahead for helping people with their stress, anxiety and well being. I can hardly wait to get started! For starters I am going to be offering a 30 minute Upper Posterior Relaxation Treatment. This will focus on scalp, trapezius, rhomboids and arms. It will be a session to help get rid of the daily tensions that we forget to leave at the door when we get home from a busy or stressful day. Check out the special at the bottom of the page!
Ride the Current!

Sometimes in life you just have to go with the flow, ride the current til its settles and smoothes itself out. I learned that from the ducks, they never fight the current as they would be exhausted by the time they tried to get where they were going. As I watched them for a bit, they were having a great old time wailing downstream, cutting around in circles, shipping back up to the top doing some sort of jetski manouver. You could tell they were having fun. All in freezing water, brrr.
My whole point is that sometimes life is hard. Period. We all have to go through it whether we want to or not. It may not seem like it at the time, but things will get better. Sometimes you need to go with the flow instead of fighting it. And we may in fact need a little help to get us back on track. There is no harm in that either. I have found in life that one of the hardest things to ever do is to ask for help, I still struggle to do that sometimes if I am being totally honest. But there is always help out there if you are also willing to help yourself. It has to start with you.
Get Outside!

A huge mood booster and to help clear your head is to actually get outside whether it be going for a walk around the block or shovelling snow (not crazy like, just a little at a time, definitely don’t overdo it all at once). If it’s a dreary day, thats the perfect time to take some photos (the best light!). Check out the many different textures of trees, grasses, buildings, etc. If you have a black and white setting on your camera, check it out, it will bring out the shadows or highlights. This was my favourite part when I was taking a photography class in college.
Just get out of your head for awhile and take in your surroundings. Listen to the birds, hear the sound of the train in the distant, the dog barking and tail wagging madly as it chases a ball at the park, the laughter and squeals of children as they wail down the hill on their toboggan after a fresh snowfall. And the quacking of the ducks as they rip down a current.
