Cozy & Crisp

The days are undoubtedly getting shorter, and I for one am not quite liking it, I find myself a spring/summer person, but I will do what I need to and try an be mindful of this time of year. For starters, I am trying to get up a little earlier than usual in order to get the most impact of the light. There is something kinda special about it though, having the morning to myself while hubby is still asleep under the warm duvet. I like to call it puttering, just going from one thing to another, I make a cup of tea, put away something that didn’t get done the night before, put a dish or two in the cupboard, water the plants, nothing special, but I just turn one lamp on, so that it is still a little bit cozy in the room. Maybe put on some music, I like to sometimes listen to BBC Radio 3 that plays classical. Just on low, nothing too jarring. Slowly awaken. Just savour the morning.

It is also the perfect time to get your body organized for the upcoming season that will soon enough be upon us. A great time to take a moment or two for yourself, especially after getting the kiddo’s back to school, followed by Thanksgiving, and election time, plus Hallowe’en. Just take a few moments to breathe, be in the moment. Take in all the beautiful colours, sounds, and aromas of this season. Make time for you.

Even if it’s only for a half hour, to help re-set the mind, body, and spirit. What helps me to re-set is a good walk through the forest, very grounding, great for thinking out problems, and working out new ideas. Plus I get exercise without worrying about getting exercise in! There will be some new Promo’s coming up so be on the look-out for them.

Gardens are all put away, patio furniture stashed away, vents are vacuumed, new dust filters in, spring clothes switched out, windows are squeaky clean and locked up. I like to get all that kind of stuff done before it gets cold, so it’s usually the day after Thanksgiving. That way I can focus on other things, like what new scents would be good in a foot soak or shower steamer. Sometimes I find pumpkin spice can get a little bit overdone, so I like to get creative and get some woodsy notes in there. I’ve got a few lined up for the season, so stay tuned to my promo page.

Reset Your Vagus Nerve

What the heck is a vagus nerve? It is the longest cranial nerve in the body. It is a major route that connects the brain to the rest of the body. Messages travel along to help regulate breathing, heart rate, digestion, and more. Using different techniques you can calm the vagus nerve, the body can naturally go from fright to flight mode, and also allow for relaxation, healing and recovery. It is good for reducing stress, lowers blood pressure, encourages better sleep and helps manage migraines and headaches. There are 5 ways to reset your vagus nerve.

  1. using breathwork with intention and mindfulness – deep breathing or meditation
  2. move – exercise, walking, hiking or doing an activity
  3. cold exposure – cold water splashed on face, a quick cold shower, or an ice pack on back of neck
  4. reflexology, Indian head massage, or massage – certain types of touch can help calm your nervous system
  5. engage senses with sound – humming, chanting or singing
